Devonshire Dome, Buxton

Every year, Peak District Artisans hold an award winning art & design fair at the Devonshire Dome in Buxton. It attracts hundreds of visitors, who come back every year to browse and buy unique artworks. 2024 saw 50 members exhibiting at our flagship event. We knew it would be a good one and it didn’t disappoint.

We are delighted to share the news that the fair won the award for best visual arts event in Buxton Festival Fringe this year. Thanks go to all the members who exhibited and especially our organising team who did an amazing job

The biggest annual event by the region’s premier group of creatives; this highly regarded, long established and much anticipated art fair is held in one of the most beautiful domed buildings in Europe. All original work is for sale and it is your opportunity to meet the person who made it.

As well as browsing the exhibition visitors are able to watch our artists at work with a number of members running demonstrations throughout the weekend at their stands.

Demonstrators this year were:

Ceramicists Vivienne Sillar (A Game of Two Halves) and Philip Evans
Artists Sue Prince (Egg isn’t just for breakfast!), Craig Longmuir (Oil painting inside the Dome), Lesley Linley (Waterfall), Pam Smart (Digital ipad sketching), Ruth Gray (Acrylic Painting), Bob Bernard (Landscapes in Pastels), Liz Wellby (Exploring Wire), Joanna Allen (Collagraph plate construction)
and Sandra Orme (Expressive skies)
Photgraphers Gunther Walker (Vintage Leica Photography) and Jonathan Mercer
Jeweller Suzanne Williams
Textile Artists Emily Murch ( Handweaving) and Alison Wake (Painting with Yarn)
Rachel Evans (Basketmaking)

A regular feature of the Great Dome Art Fair is our Postcard Raffle – an opportunity to win a unique, miniature, original work of art and support a local charity. All our exhibiting artists submit a piece and the display itself is magnificent.

This year our chosen charity was Blyth House Hospice for whom we raised over £1000

The preview evening 6pm to 8pm on Friday 19th July was a real event this year with drinks and music to celebrate what was our biggest event for a number of years.

This year we also had a special exhibition of collaborative work undertaken by members in the last 12 months. Works combining ceramics and calligraphy, textiles and photography, fine art and weaving, and other disciplines were on display at the centre of the Dome, highlighting how members of PDA work together to support and develop our working practice.
