Biography

I began painting as a way to express my love for nature and the outdoors, after experiencing burn out in academic research. After years of being cooped up in a laboratory, I longed to reconnect with the natural world in a meaningful way and bring a bit of nature into my home. I began painting prolifically and was lucky to gain early recognition with my “100 paintings in 100 days” project, winning the Search Press award for her painting “Mother and Calf”.

Always feeling most at home in the outdoors, with my work, I try to convey the tender feelings of cosy nostalgia, wonder and appreciation for the countryside, plants, and animals that roam there. I work both from my studio in Sheffield, and en plein air (outside) in the Peak District and surrounding areas. I can often be found perched on a cliffside, or chasing cows in a field.

In August 2022, I was honoured to receive the Arts Council DYCP grant and began painting full-time, exhibiting in a number of local and national art exhibitions, notably: the Chelsea Art Society, Cambrian Art Society, and The Artist magazine exhibition at Patchings Art Centre, where my plein air painting “Early Spring at Padley Gorge” won two awards. I am also very passionate about spreading the joy of painting, where my scientific roots help me explain my painting process in a methodic and engaging way. I write articles for The Artist magazine, demonstrate and teach for art groups and run my own painting workshops. You can find out more about my work, join my newsletter or get in touch on my website.
